Welcome to Nottingham Arts Theatre

As you have probably heard in the press, the future of this theatre has been secured by going into partnership with the Broadway Media Centre and the City Council.

We hope you will come and support us by watching our shows or audition for our sparkling new season of plays, musicals, opera and pantomime and become active members. Audition and contact details are further down this page. The rest of these web pages will be updated shortly.

You or your company could be part or the NOTTINGHAM ARTS THEATRE.

As we move to full independent management of the ARTS THEATRE by the members, we are looking for business partners to sponsor our 2001-2002 season of shows.

You could be a full or part sponsor of an individual production the would bear your name on all the promotional publicity.

Audition Information for the 2001-2002 Season

September 24th-29th

Killing Time by Richard Stockwell

Audition dates: Tuesday 10th July and Tuesday 24th July Director: Trevor Impey

A chance meeting brings Rick and Jane together and, at first, their conversation, at Rick's house seems innocent enough. Gradually the clues to the truth emerge. One of the most exciting, cliffhanging thrillers of recent years, twist after twist leads Killing Time to a gripping conclusion.

October 29th - November 3rd

'Allo 'Allo by Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft

Audition date: Tuesday 14th August Director: John Constable

Based-on the hugely popular TV comedy series, the stage version of 'Allo 'Allo follows the adventures of René, the hapless cafe owner in occupied France, as he and his wife, Edith struggle to keep for themselves a priceless painting stolen by the Nazis and kept in a sausage in the cellar. Matters come to a head with the news that the Fuhrer, is to visit the town. René will need all the wit he can muster to save his cafe and his life.

December 10th - 18th

Cinderella

Audition date: Sunday 16th September Director: Des Caffrey

The nation's best loved pantomime. A magical fairy tale of crystal slippers, ugly sisters, handsome princes and happy endings. The Arts Theatre panto is always a firm favourite, a feast of festive family fun.

January 14th - 19th

The Heiress by Ruth and Augustus Goetz

Audition date: Tuesday 18th September Director: Geoff Spittall

Catherine Sloper, the heiress of the title, is wooed by Maurice Townsend, a fortune hunter who deserts her on finding out she has been disinherited. A few years later Catherine has matured from the shy girl Maurice first met into a woman of considerable strength and, having inherited her father's fortune, is prepared to take revenge on her erstwhile lover. Based on Henry James's classic novel Washington Square, this gripping period drama has delighted audiences in the West End and on Broadway.

February 18th - 23rd

Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

Audition date: Tuesday 9th October Director: Campbell Kay

The world's greatest love story. Two 'star crossed lovers', Romeo and Juliet, defy the feuding of their families to find a brief, but luminous, love in the midst of the hatred surrounding them and, with their tragic deaths, 'bury their parents' strife'. A must for all lovers of Shakespeare, and all students of the play.


March 11th - 16th

The Merry Widow by Franz Lehar

Audition date: Sunday 9th September Director: Colin Treliving

A delightful, glittering encounter with high society in late nineteenth century Paris, full of marvellous, and instantly recognisable, melodies. Hanna Glavari has been widowed with a fortune which will be lost if she remarries outside her native Pontevedro. Ambassador Baron Zeta orders playboy Count Danilo, previously rejected by Hanna and now twice shy, to woo her and thus the scene is set for a tuneful and glamorous romp.

April 15th - 20th

A Slice of Saturday Night by The Heather Brothers

Audition date: Sunday 6th January

A musical pastiche that takes you back to the swinging sixties to celebrate the decade of mini skirts, Chelsea boots, Twiggy and the Beatles. Set to a sound track of famous sixties numbers you feel you must have beard before, this highly entertaining musical is a spoof on the Saturday night rituals of pubescent 17 year olds and the eternal embarrassment of being a teenager in love.

May 20th - 25th

Charley's Aunt by Brandon Thomas

Audition date: Tuesday 29th January Director: Des Caffrey

This classic, evergreen farce is set in Oxford during Commemoration week. The imminent visit of Donna Lucia D'Alvadorez, Charles Wykeham's aunt from Brazil, provides an excuse for the young men to invite their young ladies to meet her. When a telegram arrives postponing Donna Lucia's visit, they persuade their amiable friend Lord Fancourt Babberley (Babbs) to impersonate the aunt, since they must have a chaperone. Then the fun begins.

June 10th - 15th

Love Me Slender by Vanessa Brooks

Audition date: Tuesday 126th February Director: Mary Simons

Siobhan has lost seven stone, found a new self, a fulfilling job and a wonderful husband. Armed with these she encourages her recruits at the 'Slim for life' dieting club to achieve the same through a combination of diet and personal philosophy. But, when temptation arises and motivation begins to wane, all is not as it seems. A new comedy, the characters and issues Love Me Slender will be instantly recognisable to anyone who has ever counted a calorie.

July 1st - 6th

Annie by Charles Strouse, Martin Chanin & Thomas Mehan

Audition date: Sunday 10th March

Annie is the story of a plucky, red-haired girl who dreams of life outside her orphanage and of escaping from its gin-soaked tyrant, Miss Hannigan. When Annie goes to stay with the famous billionaire Daddy Warbucks, Miss Hannigan and her villainous colleagues are determined to spoil the fun of America's favourite orphan. Featuring a clutch of terrific songs including 'It's a Hard-knock Life' and 'Tomorrow', Annie captures the hearts and imagination of young and old alike. A must see musical for all the family.
