History of the Co-op Arts Theatre

Since the Theatre opened its main auditorium in November, 1948, with a performance of 'An Inspector Calls" by J.B. Priestley, we have presented over 460 full-scale productions, ranging from Pantomimes to Grand Opera, Farces to Classical Tragedies, Musical Comedies to Old Time Music Hall, as well as countless other entertainments.

Over the past fifty years, many of our members have gone on to successful careers in the professional theatre and some have become household names.

We are very proud of our Theatre, and of all the people - past, present and future - who have worked and are still working to keep up the variety and standard of performances that our patrons have come to expect.

Fifty Years Till Now. Let's hope that in fifty years from now we shall still be as proud and still as busy as we are today....
